Testing your dog for worms, especially if it is a puppy, is extremely important. You should take a stool sample to your veterinarian at least once a year to check for internal parasites.

All dogs need de-worming because all dogs have worms at some time in their lives and the five kinds of worms that dogs get can be passed on to humans. Usually, dogs are de-wormed as puppies, because worms can be devastating to a dog's health. If you suspect worms contact your vet for a fecal test and advice.

Keeping dogs on a monthly worm preventative will prevent most infestations. If your dog is not treated monthly a stool or blood sample will help the vet pick the best wormer. Left untreated heartworms can cause death and intestinal worms can cause stravation.

Dog worming as a puppy is very important. Regarless if you think your dog has been exposed he may have been. It is not expensive to worm your dog. For its health, and a peice of mind, take your dog to the vet and have them wormed. A healthy dog is a happy dog!

All puppies are born with worms (passed from the mother, whether she "has" worms or not!), so initially in a dog's life it is important that the puppy be given a course of worming medications. As an adult it is a choice left up to the owner and their vet.

It is very important to de-worm your dog if they have worms because it can cause many health problems. They are a parasite and when a dog gets worms, if not cause right away, the dog will not be able to absorb the nutrients it needs to say healthy and it may even lead to rapid weight loss.
