Grow your rosemary bush in well drained sandy soil. Make sure that the bush gets at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight. Rosemary cannot withstand temperatures below 30 degrees F. It is best to plant in containers that can be easily brought inside during winter.

Rosemary is an outdoor plant that needs sun all day. It prefers to be in the ground. However, it needs temperatures above 20 degrees F.

A rosemary plant can be grown outside if you are in climate zone 6, 7 or higher. Northern winters are too severe for the plant. You can bring it inside in the winter and place in a sunny window. If in a warm climate just plant in dry soil.
