Hyperthyroidism may make it difficult to get pregnant, but a mild or moderate case should not affect the pregnancy. If a mother has severe or uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, she has an increased risk of infection, anemia, or pre-eclampsia, a dangerous condition with high blood pressure. A woman with hyperthyroidism can have a healthy pregnancy but she may need medication.
