How does cloning plants work?

What does the process have in common with cloning people?

Answer by  Erynn (1651)

Cloning of plants is normally much simpler than cloning people - which has never been legally sanctioned and probably never done - one simply takes a leaf or stem of the plant and causes the cells to grow roots. This can even be done with small cell samples and the right nutrients/chemicals. This has little/nothing to do with cloning mammals.

Take a cutting from the plant, put it in pot with root hormone which enables it to take root itself, like cloned animals it becomes genetically identical to the parent

Cloning plants work by taking a cutting from one plant and rooting the cutting to form a completely new plant.
