Two types: Physically it protects the cable. But encapsulation related to data means running the data over a different, new type of data protocol than usual. It's "encapsulated" to look like the new type. For example, a number of different data formats can be run over HTTP (Web) protocol.

Cable encapsulation protects the cable line and often shields it from unwanted signals. If you want max bandwidth, the more shielding the better.

Encapsulation relates to the overall jacket or insulation on Category 5 or greater voice/date cable. Its purpose is to eliminate electrical interference and or crosstalk.

There different types of LAN cables available (a)Coaxial cable (b)UTP cable (c)Fiber optics cable Using different types of LAN cable setting will be different. Using coaxial the LAN is about 200 metre with UTP cable the LAN is about 300 metre using of fibre optics LAN is greater than miles.
