Perhaps begin with acknowledging that abortion is a hotly-debated topic. You could briefly review each side's perspective and then your thesis statement (which is at the end of your introduction) can state that there are more disadvantages than advantages to abortion.

The purpose of this paper is to address the negative impacts of the highly controversial issue of abortion. While abortion may be warranted in certain situations, I will discuss research and findings that support the issues of (issue #1), (issue #2), and (issue #3) which will be reviewed at length below.
