I'm not sure of what type of "convincing paper" you're intending to write, but the most important thing to remember in any piece like this, is passion. Make sure that you make your points strongly, having sources to support it. Try to get inside the concept and make it yours.

A convincing paper is one that causes someone to agree with your opinion. For instance, if I adore pit bulls, I might write a paper convincing you to buy one.

Your paper needs to be argumentative. You have to take a side of an issue and convince people that you're side is the right side. You have to make points and prove them.

A convincing paper influences others' opinions. To write one, create a thesis statement (such as a statement about your opinion of abortion). Then come up with facts that support your opinion. These can be statistics or the logical outcomes of your opinion (how it makes society better, for example). Look up "five paragraph essay" for information on the actual writing.
