How do you wind old Gilbert mantel clocks with a key?

I don't want to damage my clock.

You simply insert the key provided and turn it clockwise a few times until it gets kind of hard to turn. Then it is winded up as far as it will go, set the time and close the door and you will be good to go.

insert the key turn it, then wind the clock, slowly. If resistence is felt stop and remove key, then start again.

There must be three holes on the face of the clock. it is for winding and usually you have to wind to the right. Keep winding randomly but cautious. Try the keys and check out for my method if dont work, call the company they will surely solve the issue.

You should see three holes on the front of the clock, they are all for winding it. Based on the age of the clock they should all wind to the right. To avoid damaging the clock when you're winding the clock and you can feel it becoming harder to turn the key, you have wound enough.
