How do you weld if you wear contact lenses?

It's highly advised that you don't! While it may seem convenient to not have glasses that will fog up or slip, wearing them serves two purposes. One, the glasses add an extra barrier between you and any debris that could get lodges in your eyes. And two, gasses produced from heating some metals can melt the plastic of the lenses!

With protection of course, just as you would without contact lenses. The direct flash from an arc on a welder would proably not melt the contact on your eye, but it can burn your eye itself, and the retina. Contacts actually could be good with welding since glasses may not fit well under a welding mask.

I just wear a standard auto-dark full face mask, as is always smart. I have never had any problems with contacts from welding.

You can still weld with contact lenses in, as long as you still cover up with a professional welding mask.
