After you have your scanner out of the box and plugged in, you can check the recommended frequencies that came with the scanner, but chances are these will not match up to your local police frequencies. The easiest way to learn these frequencies is to look for them online, or possibly ask a local law enforcement officer.

Well all you have to do is find a list of frequencies or just scan for them if you have that feature. Then you can listen in.
