You will need an ODBII scanner to reset the light. You must first read the trouble codes and repair the problem and then you can reset the light using the scanner.

The "service engine" light comes on to advise the owner that it's time for service to keep the vehicle in optimum condition. The technician will de-activate the light and reset it for the next service alert. There is no doubt a fuse you can pull to turn it off, but that would likely disable other systems as well.

The only way to clear the engine light is to fix whatever caused it and clear the codes from the vehicles computer. This can be done it a scan tool.

Depending upon the year of the vehicle you should be able to use an ODB II compatible troubleshooting computer to diagnose and reset the check engine light on your Discover. If you have an Autozone store in your area they will do it for you for free. Some other auto parts stores may offer free analysis as well.

To turn off the light you must first correct the problem within the engine. Once fix you can use code scanner to clear any stored codes. You can also clear codes by pull of the battery cable for a few minutes. This will reset other components also though.

That light is used to indicate a engine problem. Have a shop take a look at it. They should be able to fix the issue and reset the light. If you have fixed the problem and need to get rid of it yourself you can do it with a hand-held scanner or by pulling the negative battery cable.
