To figure out how far apart your contractions are, you want to time from the beginning of one contraction to the beginning of the next contraction. To determine how long each contraction is, you time from the beginning of one contraction to the end of the same contraction. Try this for a few contractions to determine a pattern.

From the start of one contraction, start timing. When you start another contraction, stop timing. The time in between there is the length of time commonly used as the in between contractions.
