Females generally have shorter fins, smaller body and more muted colors than the males. Females should have a small white spot on their underside which is not always noticeable.

Male and female betas do look similar but when you know what to look for they are easily sexed. Males have long lavish tails and a symmetrical body. As for the females the fins and tail are short and they hard deep stomachs causes no symmetrical shape. Male betas are very beautiful.
