Children learn behaviors through example and instruction. Be respectful of their feelings and thoughts. When they express behavior in a disrepectful manner, show them what would of been a more appropriate response. Since children respond so well to praise, make sure they get lots of it when they are respectful.

I have a 2 year old daughter and she already says; thanks mommy or thanks Daddy. She speaks with two words. You have to be respectful yourself so your baby can copy you in that behavior. If they learn it from early on they will not forget it when they are older.

Set a good example, set firm boundaries, and use discipline. If you are a teacher there are limits to your authority, and ultimately it is down to parents, but you can let the kids know that just because something is acceptable at home, it doesn't mean it is acceptable in your classroom.

It's important not to yell or punish them harshly. If anything, they become rebellious. Try bending down to eye-level and talking to them there. It makes them feel less intimidated.
