Obviously, the easiest way to keep a puppy from eating its own feces is to clean up immediately after it. It is best to establish a routine that helps the puppy learn what is not appropriate, including scheduled walks and a special part of the yard for the puppy to go.

One reason dogs eat feces is because of a condition called Coprophagia. This means that your dog isn't getting enough nutrients. This often happens when you feed dogs lower quality food, and they eat a lot of it so they get enough nutrients, but a lot just passes through into the feces, which then smells like food to the puppy.

Sometimes a puppy will eat its own feces because it's not getting enough nutrients. If your dog has worms this could be the cause, so deworm him.

First start off by telling your puppy "NO! " when he does this. Secondly, there are things that you can feed your dog that will make his feces taste really bad. He then won't want to eat it.

Young puppies may do this for no reason at all. Just directly say no each time and reward when they turn away from it.
