Select a place for full sunlight. Well drained sand is best for the plant. Add compost, manure and leaves to the soil. The bud union should be 1-inch above the soil.

Prepare site by using compost and organic matter months in advance. Early spring is perfect for planting. Full sunlight and a good drainage system are required. Do not plant tree too deep and keep pruned back to a "vase" form, and make sure sun can hit center of plant. Seeds will take about seven years to produce fruit.
