I am assuming that this is needed for algebra or pre-calculus. Well you have to use the following formula odd test to determine if the function is odd. If the function is even, you can determine it by noting if f(x) = f(-x). If so, then the function is even.

A function f(x) where x is an arbitrary variable is even if f(-x)=f(x) and odd if f(x)=-f(x). So in order to solve an even or odd function just put any value of x and check the condition.
