If using a knife isn't feasible for cutting block cheese, there are companies who make cheese slicers. Some look kind of like potato peelers or egg slicers, but they're made big enough for block cheese. Use it like a knife for a straight cut. If all else fails, of course, just buy it pre-sliced.

You get a cheese slicer and it should be the type with a roller on it. You then roll down length and cut in half each slice or fold it.

There are cheese knoves made just for this task. It is designed for the job. Select a cheese knife with holes because this will keep the cheese from sticking while cutting.

Some stores sell utensils that slice cheese that make it much simpler by cutting it with a wire. Block cheese can also be cut using a knife.
