How do you slice bread?

Totally, a sharp serrated knife is what you need. They make bread knives, however, if you find a suitable one that is not labeled as such, it should work just as good.

Wait until it sets about 10-15 minutes out of the oven and with a good bread knife gently saw back and forth being careful not to use too much force

Really The knife is important. After the bread has rested until it is decently cool then you can slice it on top of a sturdy cutting board. I typically use a long serrated knife to slice with. You want to firmly hold the bread and use long steady strokes to cut it. The smoother you do it the better.

With practice you get good with a bread knife (unless, like my father, you always cut "wedges"). But I have found that an electric carving knife is best, less crumbs.
