Take voice lessons, an instructor helps you find your tessitura. Study music theory, reading music and Italian, commonly used in opera. Joining choir will help train your voice. Sing everyday.

Opera is generally something that requires a person be classically trained. The first requirement is to find a good teacher in your area. Opera is NOT something to be attempted when you've only sang in the chorus at school. It takes dedication and PRACTICE. It also requires one to be in fairly good health as it is difficult.
