You set up a mic pre by plugging one end into the sound card and the other end into your microphone. It is a pretty simple process and should work perfectly.

First of all, connect all cables before powering up any equipment as "hot-patching" can be harmful to your equipment. If phantom power is required for your microphone then switch it on before power up as well. Once powered up gain levels should be set so that there is no peaking when the sound source is at its loudest.

The best thing to do is to hook up your auxilary cables to the amp and the stereo and then you can hook up the mic pre.
