You need to select a weight you're most comfortable throwing. The bowling alleys already have the lightest balls ready, and they're usually around 5-6 pounds. If you think this is too light, you can get a heavier one at sport stores. Professional bowling balls can go up to 16 pounds.

First, figure out what weight of ball works for you. If you are a beginner, you might prefer a lighter ball; more experienced bowlers can handler heavier choices. Next, select a color/pattern that you like. Lastly, check the placement of the fingerholes--you want your fingers comfortably placed, not stretched or cramped.

The best way to select a good bowling ball is to try it out. When you go to a shop, do not be afraid to weigh it in your hand and put your fingers in the grips. You will be able to feel if it is too heavy or too light. The materials used should be listed.

A good bowling ball should match your style of bowling. Research the specs of the ball online or in your dealers catalogues. Also check to see the ball will act like you want it to on your house conditions.

A good bowling ball can be decided upon by trying out a number of different balls for their weight and the amount of space your fingers have when they enter the holes in the ball. You should be able to feel that you can complete a full bowling action with the weight you choose.

You need to figure out if you curve or throw straight, this will determine the outside coating of your ball and how it will react with the lane.
