It is a block placed at the top of the ball to off-set loss of weight from drilling finger holes. Most recommend a top weight of 3-4 ounces.

I'm pretty sure the heaviest bowling ball allowed on most commercial lanes is 16 pounds, but I've seen "specialty" bowling balls as light as 5 pounds and up to 20 pounds. I would check with the United States Bowling Congress for the official league rule about weight requirements or restrictions.

The maximum weight of a bowling ball is 16 pounds. The weight used by a bowler, however, depends on a number of factors. Smaller, lighter bowlers will have difficulty lifting the 16 pound ball. On the other hand, the heavier ball will get increased pin count. Good luck!

On average bowling balls weigh between 8 and 16 pounds. The top legal weight according to the United States Bowling Congress is 16 pounds. Most bowlers throw a ball weighing between 10 and 14 pounds, depending on their personal preferances. Only someone who is particularly strong will be able to throw a 16 pound ball for a complete game.

16 pounds is the highest that you would be able to use in a tournament. You can get a ball up to 20 pounds though, my brother used to run a pro shop.

The top weight for a regulation bowling ball is sixteen pounds. When selecting a ball the weight of the ball should be roughly ten percent of your body weight. Another good rule to go by is to choose a ball that is one to two pounds heavier than the house ball you are bowling with.

Bowling balls for regulation ten-pin games have no minimum weight, but can weigh no more than sixteen pounds. In general, the lightest ball available weighs six pounds.

The heaviest bowling ball weighs sixteen pounds. The lightest ball weighs 8 pounds. The heaviest ball is usually specially drilled for the bowler by custom fitting his finger sizes so the holes can be properly drilled to fit his hand. The bowling ball should be cleaned regularly to remove dirt that builds up on the surface.

Bowling balls generally will not exceed 16 pounds. In order to get one heavier then this, it would have to be on special order, and would be very hard for an amateur player to control.

The heaviest weight bowling ball you can use regulation wise is 16 pounds. There are usually ounces included with this but they are subtracted due to drilling.
