A legal summons requires a court appearance. The information should be on the summons. If you do not go to court, you will receive a warrant for your arrest.

Appear in court at the time stated on the summons. Failure to appear could lead to criminal charges of contempt of court. If the summons has the potential to affect you aversely in any way, for example, someone is suing you or you are being accused of a crime, seek the counsel of a lawyer.

Read it carefully and follow the instructions -- if it calls for you to attend court, be there; if it calls for a legal document to be filed, don't miss your deadline. Failure to comply might cause you to lose a legal case against you and put you in contempt.
