Disconnect the battery. Jack up the car and place on jack stands. Remove the wiring from the starter. Support the starter weight. Remove the starter mounting bolts. Mark starter housing then disassemble. Test Solenoid and armature for short. Replace bearings and brushes. Replace Starter drive if it whines when trying to start car or the teeth are damaged.

The easiest solution for a faulty starter is to try jump starting first. Get a 2 by 4 or similar piece of wood and a hammer. Put one end of the wood on the starter, and hit the other end of the wood with the hammer while you have a friend attempt to start the car.

Well, this work is very difficult for an amateur. You can't repair it yourself. It has to be replaced by a mechanic.

There's really no easy way to repair a starter. As long as you have a starter body to trade, it's cheaper just to replace it with a rebuilt one.

You are going to need to unhook the starter from the transmission. It should be on the right side and it will be bolted in with three bolts and two wires coming off of it.
