How do you make mulch?

Making mulch is easy using a system called a composting bin. You can take leaves, wood chips and garbage and place it in a fenced in bin. As the materials decay it will make a great nutrient filled mulch for plants and trees.

I make my lawn mulch out of grass clippings and leftover vegies. I rake them in a pile and mix the two together. You can make mulch out of a several things though. Used newspapers make an excellent mulch and work great for weed control. I have also used leftover hay from Haloween displays.

Rent a shredder/chipper from your local home store and feed small branches and bark into it. If the resulting pile of shredded mulch still has large chunks in it, feed it through the shredder a second time. The mulch can be placed around your plants to help prevent weed growth, just be sure it doesn't touch the stems or trunk.

There are different ways to go about this, but chipping up wood is a great start. You miught also use compost.
