How do you make coiled baskets?

I see that they sell for a lot. This might be a good business to start.

Wrap colorful strands of knitting thread around clothesline. Coil the covered line in a small circle to form base of the basket, making the circle bigger as you go. Use your hands to shape basket. Glue the line in the last row to the previous one to finish the basket.

It depends on the shape of the basket, but in general coiled baskets aren't hard to make. The more difficult part is perfecting the shape and pattern, and finding the materials that you're most comfortable with. There are several how-to books and videos that can help get you started coiling.

You need a good fabric like cotton or a cotton/polyester blend that is cut into long strips that are then rolled into coils. Begin rolling the coils into layers around a cardboard base, fabric gluing and pinning each layer until dried. You can whip stitch the layers for firmness.
