You can simply buy a virgin cd or dvd and burn your favourite songs with a freeware burning program, such as burrrrrrrn or cdburnerxp. Regardless, the cassette is not totally obsolete, it still has a niche in reggae and metal circles. You can find some equipment in good condition and do a tape the old fashioned way.

A "mix tape" can now be made on a CD, or Compact Disc. You may download mp3 music files on your computer and place them on the CD.

You can still copy to tape decks if you have one; or, you could copy music from CDs to your computer and then "burn" the tracks you want to a new disc. You can also do this with music that you've downloaded.
