Ask the best player in the pool room if he would like to 'knock the balls around'. Most of the time they will gladly except and show you some of their favorite moves. Offer to pay the table time and buy him a beer.
Like anything in life, you learn from experience. Just practice, practice, practice, practice. Even the masters still practice. No one is ever done learning.
