Its hard, but many people use recordings of predatory birds to scare off small mammals like chipmunks, squirrels and pesky birds. Unfortunately, while this tends to be successful with birds, chipmunks sometimes adjust to the sounds and return to the garden.

You can shoot them and hang them from a post for the others to see and they will not come back into your garden. You can also use an organic pesticide that will keep them out as they don't like the smell. You can also use an electrical charge that will keep them out.
