Just about any good imaging program will do. These programs create a "image" file of a disk, which you can then load into a DVD drive emulator, or burn the image to a black DVD.

You have to put the DVD into the computer. Then the mac will automatically ask you what you want to do with it. It is a mac, it knows all.

If it is a copyrighted DVD you would have to use a ripping program (AnyDVD works well), This is only legal if you own a physical copy of the disc and retain the proof of purchase.

Most DvDs are coded in such a way that they can not be easily recorded directly onto a computer, macs in particular tend to adhere closely to this regulation. You may be able to use a search engine to find and install a third party addon that will allow you to import it however.

If you're talking about video DVDs to store backups of your movie collection, check out Handbrake. It's the primary application for Macs.
