I have a mulimeter, but I don't know how to use it.

On a 110V outlet (regular household, three prong): ground is usually the bottom rounded hole while neutral is the largest from the slotted receptacles.

Negative side is ground which is the black wire the red wire goes on the plus or positive side. And alot of time it will depend on what your checking.
