Well, one popular method is to take a pipe cleaner (shape it however you want), then dissolve boax into boiling water (3 TABLEspoons of borax per cup of water) then pour the water into a jar and hand the pipe cleaner into it. Food color can be added too :D

Stir 3 tablespoons of borax into a cup of boiling water so that it all dissolves. Then leave an object such as a pipe-cleaner in the water overnight.

Add salt to water until no more desolves. Warm the solution and add more salts until no more dissolves. Pour cooling liquid, add small "seed"crystals to grow larger crystals
