How do you go about donating hair?

I want to donate mine for wigs for cancer patients.

Answer by  Niq (204)

The best way to go about that is to do a Google search for any hair donation sites. Also, there are plenty of hair stylists who know about hair drives that usually offer discounted or even free hair cuts for charity.

All you have to do is go to the Locks of Love website and fill out a form. All of the guidelines are on there as well.

The most recognized hair donation organization is called Locks of Love, and the hair must be a minimum of ten inches long with rubber bands at both ends. The hair must also be virgin hair, meaning it must not have had any chemical services performed on it prior to donation. The hair can be sent by you or your hairdresser.

Some good organizations are Locks of Love, Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and Matter of Trust. Check their websites to get their contact info and specific donation requirements.

The most popular resource for hair donation is Locks of Love. Any type of hair can be donated, except bleached hair. It's ok if it's just dyed, they just can't take bleached hair. To donate, you need to have at least 10 inches of hair to donate and you just fill out a form on their website.

You have to make sure you have at least 10 inches to cut off, go to a hair dresser and with your hair in a ponytail have them cut above the hair tye so the tye will hold all the hair together. Take your hair with you look up the adress for locks of love and send it to them.

Many professional hair stylists have contacts with Locks of Love Foundation, which is just one organization that collects human hair for wigs. If your stylist is unfamiliar with this group, contact your local American Cancer Society, who can direct you to worthy groups.
