How do you get rid of bedbugs?

They say sometimes to get rid of them is a challange. Mostly people just call for an exterminator and the bedding and surroundings are sprayed.

This was a topic on the Diane Rehm show the other day. Experts on her show said there are private companies that are able to heat apartments and homes to a high temperature (140F or so) and that effectively kills all the bed bugs.
