Three steps. 1. You setup a bedtime routine and set a time for bed. 2. If child gets out of bed say "its time for bed" and put them back. 3. If child keeps getting out of bed say nothing and continue until they stay in bed. It will be hard at first but does work with time and patience.

Establish a bed time ritual. Read him a story then kiss him and tuck him into bed. Be firm, if he gets out of bed put him back in.

The easiest way is to slowly ease into it. Start by having your toddler take naps in his own bed. Make him stay there for a nap. After your toddler falls asleep in the evening place your toddler in his own bed and everytime he comes back to yours.

Make it more comfortable for him. Read to him until he falls asleep and place a night light in his room. If he wakes up put him back into bed.

You have to establish a calm and repetitive process. Toddlers can sense weakness so stick to the plan. Talking repeatedly about their big boy bed and putting them there for naps and bedtime. Do not give in no matter how many times they get up or fuss about being there.
