How do you find out what symbols go on your family crest?

It's difficult to say for certain. There are companies that claim to be able to research and create the family crest, but these companies are extrapolating based on very little information. Since there is no record or history of these things, customers have no way to verify. Contrary to popular belief, most families did not have crests.

Most families do not have a crest. If you have one made, it has symbols the creator feels are relevant to you and your family. If you have one, it will be on record in your families paternal country of origin.
