How do you do your own soundproofing?

My mom is complaining about the noise.

You can buy soundproofing materials, such as egg crate mattress pads or specialized soundproofing sheets that attach to the walls. Conversely, you can insulate the walls and put 5/8" drywall over the insulation. This will help a lot. Carpeting over the drywall and floors helps some, as does insulating electrical outlets.

The most effective way to soundproof a room is to install acoustic foam panels. Cover all of the walls and the ceiling. If this is too expensive, you can hang blankets from the walls. This will dampen the noise but not as well as acoustic foam.

The cheapest way is to stick egg boxes on the walls and ceilings, but she might complain about that more than the noise.
