This is how you determine the accuracy of a airplanes speed pacing, when a plane is flying at its normal rate the turbines measure the velocity of which the plane travels.

There are several factors in determining speed with an airplane. Airplane speeds are relative to the surrounding air. When the airplane is traveling into the wind, the speed is slower but then when the airplane has a tailwind it will be faster when using the same amount of power.
