Animals are put into different classifications by genetic makeup and outward appearance. It does not require any dissection to figure out.

Finding an organism's kingdom classification is fairly easy, since there only 6 kingdoms. The three major kingdoms are Animalia (animals), Plantae (plants) and Fungi (fungus). The other three kingdoms are Protista (eukaryotes), Archea (single-celled organisms), and Bacteria (prokaryotes). All organisms we call "animals" belong to Kingdom Animalia. All kingdoms are further classified by phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.

You don't have to dissect it. Check on Wikipedia they have all animal classifications and kingdoms. They have all things of that nature for your animal.
