Easy. "Kilo" means "thousand" -- there are one thousand meters in a kilometer, so just divide by 1000. The equation is kM = M/1000, where kM is kilometers and M is meters. If there's a decimal point, just move it three digits to your left. For example 1234. 5 meters is 1. 2345 kilometers.

there are 1000 meters in one kilometer. so take the number of meters and divide it by 1000. or you could take the decimal point and move it 3 spaces to the left. for example, if the distance from A to B was 3400 meters, the distance from A to B could be expressed as 3. 4 kilometers.
