How do you clean a finished cross stitch project?

I have a rather large cross stitch piece that needs to be cleaned.

Before framing a project, I use a little dishsoap and cold water. You'll need to iron it once it dries. Iron it from the backside carefully.

I would recommend just spot cleaning it with a dye-less detergent. We've had some projects that we have been able to put in the washer on the delicate cycle. Another option is to put the item in a pillow case to protect the threads from tangling.

Place finished piece in glass bowl, cover with salt, leave for 3-4 hours. Shake off excess salt, placed piece in the dryer for 15 minutes. Salt removes oil and dirt.

I wash my finished work by hand and air dry. When almost dry I put my piece face down on a towel and iron on the wrong side.
