Start the vehicle and leave it in park and engage emergency brake. Open the hood. Look for a red dipstick. Check it the same way you check your oil.

Run the truck up to temperature - best done by taking it for a short drive. Lift the hood and look for the dipstick on the passenger side, toward the rear of the engine compartment. Check the fluid level with the engine running. The fluid should be clean and red. If the level is anywhere in the hatches it's good.

Check on level ground with the engine idling and the transmission in Park. Remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it off with a clean rag. Reinsert the dipstick and remove it again and check the fluid level.

To check the transmission fluid there should be a dipstick that has a yellow top to it. it will look similar to the dipstick for the oil but will be yellow
