Taffeta (silk or synthetic) is a dry-clean only fabric. Water will permanently spot the fabric. Iron on low or on medium with a pressing cloth.

It depends on what the taffeta is made from. Polyester and nylon taffetas can sometimes be machine washed. That would definitely ruin real silk, however. A reputable dry cleaner will know whether or not the fabric will tolerate moisture, and clean it accordingly. Use the lowest setting possible when pressing this fabric; proceed with caution.
