They don't need special care. Just don't cut too many branches off, it will use it strength to grow branches, not pears.

Pruning is absolutely, and without a doubt, the most important thing. Pear trees have a habit of splitting in storms due to lack of pruning. Every year you want to prune out the dead and prune out sucker growth and branches that overlap or rub against each other. This ensures that the wind can blow through the tree.
