This is a fairly loaded question, as with all trees, plants and botanical items in general, there are many different species which should be considered. With any plant "ailment" there are many symptoms which can be considered. You should research your plant types, this could be one thing or another.

Water the plant heavily the first year after that occasionaly in dry or hot weather.Fertilze with a balnced fertilizer in late winter and mid summer.remove any deadwood at the bottom.

I Water slowly my Green Giant Arborvitae with a garden hose, or use a soaker hose everyday. After the first year it has been planted, the trees will need on an occasional watering, especially during summer, hot-dry weather. So watering is really important on Green Giant Arborvitae.

Caring for a Green Giant Arborvitae is not as hard as it may seem. You must make sure it has plenty of water and sunlight. If there is not enough water or sunlight, the Green Giant Arborvitae may die, or at the very least not live up to its magnificent potential.

This tree is almost maintainance free! It can withstand hot and humid or cold and ice. They are disease resistant as well as pest resistant. Great for landscaping.
