A really good real estate agent can help you determine if you're ready to buy, determine what you want/need in a home, explain the financial consideration, help you find a property and then walk you through the process of making an offer and securing financing. It is an involved process. There are loads of books and websites on the subject.

Your best bet is to consult a real estate broker/agent, choose the upper price you can afford to pay, and approximate location where you want to buy a house. You might want to check the internet for pricing of real estate in the area you are interested in for reference.

The first thing that you need to do is figure out how much money you are willing to spend, and how much you can afford per month. Find a Realtor.
