How do you build a compost pit?

Answer by  Shrura (27)

You must dig a whole on the ground at a spot that gets enough sunlight and put in the compostables in the pit. Make sure to add some cardboard and leaves to take out to excessive moisture. Every now and then, mix up the materials in the pit.

Dig a hole large enough to accommodate compost. Compost material may include banana peelings, vegetable matter, coffee and tea grounds, mulched grass, leaves and natural materials. Turn material occasionally.

To build a compost pit you will need a shovel and a few garden tools. You need to dig a hole in the ground. Then you need to clean the hole and soil. The next thing to do is to put your trash in the hole, put leafs and add water.

You don't really need to build a pit. Just select an area that is shaded and set up sides that will allow air to circulate. You can use chicken wire or you can just make an enclosure using bales of straw. Toss in your compost materials. Turn them with a pitchfork and spray with water weekly.
