How do you add rational expressions?

I'm working on a story problem.

You have to pass it to fractions or to decimal all the numbers added, in case of fractions find the LCD and add, in the case of decimals just add.

Rational expressions are just like fractions. And just like fractions, you should look for the least common denominator of the two expressions. Once you find that, it's just a matter of renaming each of the expressions by multiplying its numerator and denominator by the same expression. Then add the numerators.
