Most states do not have detailed procedures or regulations regarding proper delegation. The NCSBN has established the Five Rights of Delegation, which clarify somewhat, but your best bet is to meet with a supervisor or Director of Nursing for the in-house details.

It is important for nurse to understand the need for delegation, which should be based on seniority and knowledge. You wouldn't want a new nurse administering your chemo or an inexperienced nurse tapping your veins for blood. This doesn't mean you always need the most mature nurse - just the one with the right background.
